When it came time for my mom's birthday, I wanted to do something special for her cake. Before this particular occasion had arrived, I had been watching Food Network Cake Challenges, and was fascinated by the amount of artistry involved in making a shaped cake. With that in mind, and the inspiration inside of me, I found myself in the nearest bakery asking if they could create a cake in the shape of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Unfortunately, all they could offer was a picture of the Eiffel Tower, and that only if I could bring one in. I proceeded to query as to whether or not there was another bakery in town that might offer the type of creativity I was searching for, but sadly found the answer to be no. So I ordered the traditional "Happy Birthday Mom" cake, and went on my way. However, the disappointment gave me a new perspective in the world of cakes. I realized that I had the ability to create cakes, and not just any ordinary cakes, but intricate, shapely works of art! After a few trial cakes, and finding the perfect buttercream and fondant icing recipe, I was ready to begin!
